Website and mobile application terms of use

1. Introduction

1.1. Expand Live (Pty) Ltd operates "Expand", a competition regulated by these rules.

1.2. Entry occurs via the web application, on internet-enabled devices.

1.3. One (1) entry into the Competition is free every day.

1.4. Additional daily attempts are available through paid subscriptions — see clause 8 below.

1.5. Information is available at www.expand.co.za.

2. Interpretation

• "Act": Consumer Protection Act, No. 68 of 2008, as amended;
• "Business Day": any day other than a Saturday, Sunday, or proclaimed public holiday in the Republic of South Africa;
• "Competition": the promotional contest governed by these rules;
• "Competition Period": July 2026 to December 2026;
• "Participant": a natural person meeting the criteria set out in these rules;
• "POPIA": Protection of Personal Information Act, No. 4 of 2013, as amended;
• "Promoter": Expand Live (Pty) Ltd;
• "Prize": cash, airtime, vouchers, or coupons;
• "Winner": a successful Participant meeting all criteria.

3. The Consumer Protection Act

3.1. These rules may limit Promoter liability, create Participant risk, require indemnification, or serve as an acknowledgement of facts by the Participant.

4. The Competition

4.1. A skill-based contest rewarding general knowledge about South African brands and services, with chance determining winners after the skill requirement is met.

5. Competition Period

5.1. Duration: July 2026 to December 2026, subject to updates from time to time.

6. Who may participate

6.1. Participants must:

• be South African citizens or permanent residents;
• be 18 years or older;
• have access to a compatible internet-enabled device.

6.2. Entry constitutes acknowledgement of having read, understood, and agreed to these rules.

6.3. Participants to this Competition participate entirely at their own risk.

7. Prizes

7.1. Prizes are awarded for correct answers.

7.2. Winners are selected at random by computer algorithm from the pool of correct entries received; all entries in the pool stand an equal chance of winning.

7.3. R5 000 daily cash prizes are awarded throughout the Competition Period.

7.4. Unlimited daily play and unlimited winnings.

7.5. Correct answers do not guarantee a prize.

7.6. Spelling accuracy is required.

7.7. Winners must complete their profile to qualify — this is only required once, instructions are sent via SMS upon winning, and failure to complete the profile within 24 hours results in forfeiture of the prize.

7.8. Prizes are typically paid on the next Business Day.

7.9. Weekend or public holiday winnings are paid on the following Business Day.

7.10. Cash prizes are distributed via Nedbank Cellphone Banking, with a digital voucher and PIN.

8. Subscriptions, billing & refunds

8.1 Subscription options

8.1.1. A free daily entry is always available.

8.1.2. Paid subscriptions provide two additional daily attempts, payable via airtime, credit card, Instant EFT, or PayStack.

8.2 Billing

8.2.1. Subscription fees are charged in advance on a recurring basis (daily, weekly or monthly), with pricing disclosed in full before you confirm.

8.3 Immediate access

8.3.1. Digital service access is provided immediately upon successful payment.

8.4 Refund policy

8.4.1. No refunds, reversals or credits will be provided once a subscription has been activated, whether partially used or unused — including where a Participant forgets to cancel or misunderstands these rules.

8.4.2. This policy aligns with Section 42 of the Consumer Protection Act regarding digital content.

8.4.3. Exceptions may be considered at the Promoter's discretion for: duplicate charges from a verified technical error; incorrect billing from a system malfunction; or extended service unavailability caused by the Promoter. Approved refunds are processed to the original payment method.

8.5 Cancellation

8.5.1. Cancellation is available at any time. Cancelling prevents future charges but does not refund amounts already charged — benefits continue through the end of the already-paid period.

9. Publicity and privacy

9.1. Names may be used for promotional purposes without compensation; a Winner's eligibility for a Prize does not depend on this consent.

9.2. Personal information is processed in accordance with POPIA and the Promoter's Privacy Policy.

10. Indemnification

10.1. Participants indemnify the Promoter and its partners against liability for any damage, cost, injuries and/or losses of whatsoever nature arising from participation in the Competition.

10.2. The Promoter is not responsible for any costs incurred by a Winner after claiming a Prize.

11. General

11.1. Prizes are non-transferable. These rules are read together with the Privacy Policy.

11.2. Each winner is selected by a random algorithm, ensuring every game is fair and unbiased.

11.3. Unlawful attempts to change the outcome of the Competition are prohibited.

11.4. Non-compliance with these rules results in disqualification and forfeiture of any prize.

11.5. The Promoter may refuse to award a prize where there is a reasonable suspicion of irregularities or fraud.

11.6. Fraudulent or dishonest conduct may result in disqualification.

11.7. An ineligible Winner forfeits the Prize.

11.8. The Promoter may award the Prize to the next randomly drawn Participant, without being compelled to do so.

11.9. The Promoter reserves the right, at any time, to modify or discontinue the Competition, with or without notice, for reasons outside its control, including suspected or actual fraud.

11.10. The Promoter may amend these rules without notice; continued participation constitutes acceptance of the amended rules.

11.11. Subject to applicable law, the Promoter and its partners are released from liability except in the case of gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

11.12. All decisions of the Promoter are final and unappealable, and no correspondence will be entered into.

11.13. These rules are governed exclusively by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.

11.14. Any illegal or unenforceable provision is severed without invalidating the remainder of these rules.

11.15. The Promoter takes reasonable steps to ensure the factual accuracy of its communications.

11.16. A compatible internet-enabled device is required to enter.

11.17. Risk in a Prize passes to the Winner upon payment.

11.18. The Promoter is not responsible for any additional terms imposed by third parties in redeeming a Prize.

11.19. Personal data may be shared with necessary third parties in accordance with POPIA.

11.20. Participants consent to receiving communications from advertisers, sponsors, affiliates and partners, unless they advise otherwise.

11.21. The Promoter may share traffic and Competition statistics with its advertisers, sponsors, affiliates and partners.
