- THE PROMOTER
1.1 This competition is brought to you by Expand Live Pty Ltd (we, us, our).
1.2 Expand is a skill- and time-based daily contest played on any smart device via a mobile application (app) that can be installed for free from the App or Play Store of the user’s device.
1.3 Entry into the competition is free to all players.
1.4 Expand is played simultaneously by all players at a fixed time at 20:00 every night of the week, Monday to Friday.
1.5 Expand is not played on weekends, that is, Saturday and Sunday.
- COMPETITION PERIOD
2.1 The competition starts on 4 April 2022 and ends 16 June 2023 (competition period).
- WHO MAY PARTICIPATE
3.1 To participate in the competition, a participant (you, your) must:
3.1.1 be a South African citizen or permanent resident; and
3.1.2 be 18 years or older.
3.2 The following people may not participate in the competition:
3.2.1 Expand directors, employees or business partners, or any of their immediate family (spouse or life partner, parents, siblings and children, including adopted children, but not half or step relations), our agents, consultants or marketing service providers.
- PRIZES
4.1 Cash and airtime prizes will be awarded to winners in two parts, Expand Reveal and Watch & Win.
4.2 Prizes are awarded by providing a correct answer with our system randomly selecting the winners from each game.
4.2.1 Speed to answer is not a factor however;
4.2.2 Answers must be submitted within the allocated time to be accepted.
4.2.3 Correct spelling is required in both the Reveal and Watch & Win.
4.3 All prizes are paid out the following business day provided the winner has updated their profile by 08:00 on the morning following their win.
4.3.1 For sake of clarity this is exactly 12 hours from the start of the previous night’s game at 20:00.
4.3.2 Should a winner not update their profile before the cut-off time, their winnings will be forfeited.
4.3.3 Friday winnings and games played on public holidays will be paid on the nearest following business day.
4.3 Expand Reveal
4.3.1 Five hundred (500) players with the correct answer will win airtime every day.
4.3.2 Each winner will win R10 airtime; payable across all mobile networks within South Africa.
4.4 Watch & Win
4.4.1 Five hundred (500) players with the correct answer will win cash every day.
4.4.2 The sliding scale of these daily prizes are on six winning tiers, as follows:
- First prize R3 000
- Second prize R2 000
- Third prize R1 000
- 7 prizes of R100 each
- 490 prizes of R20 each
- HOW TO ENTER THE COMPETITION
5.1 Players must download the app from the relevant app store and register on the app to play.
5.2 Players must enter the contest on the home screen of the app daily. Registrations open at 19:57 but we recommend that you are online earlier.
5.3 A large countdown clock on the home screen of the app clearly indicates the time to the next game of Expand. This is reset after every event with a 24-hour cycle to the next Expand event, excluding weekends.
5.4 Expand Reveal
5.4.1 The player must correctly identify a brand, logo, pack shot or similar branded image within 30 seconds.
5.5 Watch & Win
5.5.1 The player must view an advertisement or similar branded video and correctly answer a question relating to the content.
5.6 Players must complete the full daily Expand cycle to qualify for cash or airtime prizes.
5.6.1 Every daily cycle starts with the player entering on the app home screen from 19:57 and is concluded by the results page. Should the player exit the app before the results page, their score will not be recorded, and any winnings will be forfeited.
- GENERAL
6.1 We will not give or transfer any prize to a third party.
6.2 These terms and conditions of play are in addition to the terms of use and the privacy policy, which are found on the app and website, and by entering the contest, you agree to the terms of use and privacy policy.
6.3 The smart application is designed to consume minimal data, and players are therefore encouraged to synchronise their device in a Wi-Fi area every couple of days to minimise data use when playing the game.
6.4 Expand reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, the contest with or without prior notice due to reasons outside its control (including, without limitation, in the case of anticipated, suspected or actual fraud).
6.5 Subject to the Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008, and to the maximum extent permitted by applicable laws, save in respect of gross negligence or wilful misconduct on the part of Expand (or anyone representing Expand) and any of their respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors, employees, distributors, retailers, assignees, advertising/promotion agencies, representatives, and agents will have no liability and will be released and held harmless from any claim, action, liability, loss, injury or damage, including, without limitation, personal injury or death to any player or winner or any third party or damage to personal or real property due in whole or in part, whether directly or indirectly, by any reason whatever, including, without limitation, the acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of the prize(s) and/or participation in the contest.
6.6 All decisions of Expand regarding the terms and conditions of play, the contest and/or the prizes are final and unappealable, and we will enter no correspondence with any contestant or winner.
6.7 The terms and conditions of play will be construed, interpreted and enforced in accordance with the laws of South Africa.
6.8 Any term and condition here or which is applicable to the contest, website or app that is illegal, prohibited or unenforceable under any law or regulation will be ineffective to the extent of such illegality, voidness, prohibition or unenforceability without invalidating the remaining provisions.
6.9 Any views and opinions shared on the website and/or as a result of the promotion or game are not financial or any other professional advice. The promoters have taken all reasonable steps to ensure that the content communicated on the website, the app and as part of the promotion or game is factually correct. However, any reliance on any views, opinions, questions and/or answers given on the website, the show and/or as a result of the promotion or quiz game is done at your own risk.
6.10 Cash winnings are paid via Nedbank Cellphone Banking.
6.11 Due to cellphone banking limitations, we are only able to pay a maximum of R4000 a day. Therefore the remaining winnings will be paid out the following workday/s.
6.12 Airtime is credited to the winners’ cellphone via PIN-less recharge across all major networks.
6.13 If you win, we may ask you to consent in writing to endorse, promote and advertise any of our services. You may decline our request to use your photo in marketing material or to participate in any of our marketing activities.
6.14 Apple Inc is not a sponsor of this competition.
6.15 On collection or receiving of any prize by the winner, all risk and liability will pass to the winner and we cease to be liable for any damage, loss or defect thereafter.
6.16 We will not be responsible for any additional terms and conditions imposed by third parties in redeeming the prize.
6.17 By participating in this competition, you acknowledge that your personal information will be shared with us to the extent necessary for the competition. We will use your personal information only in accordance with South African consumer and data protection legislation.
6.18 By participating in this competition, you consent to receiving communication from our advertisers.
6.19 You also agree that we may provide aggregate statistics about our sales, customers, traffic patterns, competition statistics and other website information to our advertisers.
